How effective is the combination of your main tasks and ancillary tasks?

Camerawork: Throughout all of our media texts (Videos, Digipak & Magazine Advert) we ensured that there was a good sense of synergy between each. In terms of camerawork we used very similar shots from parts of the video that were reminiscent of shots on the Digipak and the Magazine advert, one such shot is the one of all the characters standing alongside each other in a specific order. This can be seen below where the order is constant and the works all bounce off of each other. Not only this but all the shots below work together due to the fact that they are all mid-shots and take up the same amount of the frame in each task. The picture on the left is from the Magazine Advert, and the picture on the right is from the music video itself. This demonstrates the convergence between the three and how they all combine to give off one universal image that we wished to present to the audience. Therefore, in terms of camerawork, the combination is very effective.

In addition to the synergy that is evident in all of the tasks, we ensured that each task had a fair amount variety in terms of camerawork espescially, as it is the first and most noticable thing to the viewers. We use combinations of mid-shots, long-shots and close ups in all the tasks and this is a similarity between all the texts. This works effectively as all the tasks give off the same image but it is conveyed in different ways, this variety stops the viewers from getting bored by making sure they are always looking at something new and different. For example, in all of the tasks the 4 characters are always the focus (Dyer's Star Theory) and therefore the audience becomes used to this, to combat this we induced different states of variety into all the tasks but at the same time we presented similar images.

Editing: Throughout the tasks we had to make sure that the editing was done in away so as to combine the tasks. The most evident piece of editing that can be seen is the grid effect that is used in the Digipak, Magazine Advert and the Music Video itself. The main reason we decided to use this effect is because we used it in our premilinary task at the beginning of the year, therfore we were laready familiar to its effect and how to use it, in addition we all agreed it was the most efficient way to present all 4 characters in a slightly non-conventional way.

As can be seen above, the grid effect is used in all of the tasks, on the left is the Digipak, in the middle is a part of the magazine advert and on the right is a part of the music video. The characters are also always in the same ordser from top left to bottom right, and on the magazine advert, from left to right. This is an example of cross convergence in our technical areas and helps to connect the audience to the characters by constantly presenting them with the same image. As can be seen below, another example of editing combination is between the back of the Digipak and from the music video itself.

The example above demonstrates the synergy and combination of the tasks. The lip signature that is used on the Digipak is also incorporated into our music video, not only does this create a connection between the tasks but it also might spur the audience into remembering where they have seen it before, causing them to think deeper about our products and therefore show more interest.

MIse-En-Scene: In terms of Mise-En-Scene, we used a variety of different techniques so that all the tasks would combine to give off a similar effect. First of all, the costumes that we are wearing are maintained throughout each task and this helps keep the atmosphere constant and comfortable to the audience. The fact that we kept the same costumes also links to The Personal Identity Theory, in which each character is a seperate being in their own right and the audience can choose and make their own decisions and opinions on who they like or don't like. As can be seen above in the other pictures, we also use a similar lighting in all of the pictures or scenes of the video, the backgrouind is always white or cream/yellow, something that is bright. Though this conventional, most POP artists usually use a variety of different backgrounds and colours to show their versatility, we chose not to do this as we would have liked for the audience to get used to one atmosphere so they could associate that certain colour and tone with the characters we portrayed.

Typography: The typography was perhaps the most important aspect of the tasks to get right in terms of the combination factors. This is because the typography is what the viewer usually focuses on to gather information, by reading the typography and analysing the fonts, colours and sizes, we tried to ensure that all the texts would fit in well if they were presented together and then used this idea to determine what characteristics we wanted to include in the tasks.

It can be seen above that the texts are extremely similar and work together well in their respective products. The main similarity is the San-Serif fonts, the text is also Black and simple to promote the reader to feel as if they were just reading another everyday product, this creates a sense of identity within our products and also triggers Dyer's Paradox 1, in which the audience or viewers are made to feel as if the artist is just another regular person and so the viewer will connect to him much more clearly amd se the artrist in a different light.

In conclusion, I feel as if the ancillary tasks and the video itself work very well when they are combined. This is due to the high level of synergy in all the technical areas that we used, The Camerawork, Editing, Mise-En-Scene and The Typography. The Digipak and the Magazine Advert have the same structure with the order of the characters and the costumes, the Camerawork is also very similar between the products. The music video is a bit more varied due to its length, hoever, even this has synergy with the other tasks, examples are the lipstick signature on the paper that is also on the Digipak and Magazine Advert. Not only do all the products share similarities, they all link together in terms of technique and combine to give off one well worked product that ultimately suits the genre well.
