Our Chosen Artist- Olly Murs
After having a discussion, myself, Jonny, Josh and Rob have decided that our chosen artist is Olly Murs. Olly Murs is a British singer who rose to fame due to the TV show "The X Factor". We chose Olly Murs because we want to give off the same vibe as our Prelim Lip Sync video. We want it to be fun but at the same time allow the music to make people dance/happy/sing. In addition to this, we chose the POP genre for our main task and therefore we chose to go for a male artist this time in contrast to our female artist last time.
We chose the song "Did You Miss Me" which is to the right. We had many options to choose from but we decided to go for this song as it does not have a music video and therefore allows us to create original content without being influenced by an already existing video. Ultimately, we went for a signed artist rather than an unsigned, even though it was recommended that we go for an unsigned one. This is because we believe that audiences will react more warmly towards a popular song or artist that they may have already heard of, so a generic artist was a good choice.
Below is an Email sent by Josh from our group to Olly Murs' record label company 'Epic Records', asking for permission to use the song so as not to infringe any copyright laws and to ensure them that we will not use the song for profitable means and only for our A2 Media project.
