Digipak Analyses

Justin Bieber - Believe
The artist can be clearly seen on the front of the digipak, and the back, his gaze is focused off the shot and so leads the viewer to feel as if he knows something they don't. Thereby giving him power.
The lighting is light, and slightly flarey, but dim, so as to create a sense of mystery around the artist and his demeanour. At the back the lighting is contrasting to the front and is bright and golden. Which are connotations of hope, this links to the title of the Album "Believe" which creates a sense of syunergy between all the elements. The editing comes into play here and is subtle.
The CD itself is more plain and simple and allows for a simplistic view of the music that the audience will listen to. This draws the audience in and relates to Star theory by Richard Dyer. The artist is the main focus of the video and therefore increases their exposure and their sales.

Justin Timberlake
-
The photograph widens the target audience showing his masculinaty and attracting and appealling to women.
-
The photo is positioned slightly to the right, so the artists image is the first thing they see whne opening the digipak. (Star Theory)
-
There is a lot of text at the back of the Digipak to give info of the artist, making the audience feel a deeper connection to the artist.
-
The artists image is shown as 'cool and suave'. The whole image makes the viewer want to know more about the artist and therefore enables the artist to appeal to a much larger audience.
-
The image at the back of the digipak is taken from a live concert and so gives the appeal that if you buy the Digipak then you are closer to the artist. A feeling of exclusiveness may be felt by the audience.

Sam Smith
There is generally a Black & White theme, he doesnt look at the camera in either the digipak cover or the poster, which gives an air of mystery. This encourages the viewer to keep getting to know the artist. There is a plain background on the digipak advert that makes the image stand out to the viewer, in this case the image is the artist. The look of clarity that is seen also realtes to the soul aspect of the music that Sam Smith performs, this creates a sense of synergy that works well to draw the audience in. The font is consistent throughout, it is plain and bold but strong and presentable, the positioning of the font ensures that the viewer looks at the image at the same time as the writing. This links to Star Theory but also Paradoz 1 in which due to the normal pose of the artist, he just looks like a regular person, allowing the audience to connect with their artist.

Pharell Williams
The colour of the digipak is very contradictive in terms of the colour scheme, and allows the audience to feel as if there are many personalities that they are listening to. The front is dark and mysterious, this may be to draw the viewer in and invite the audience to look inside. The CD itself is multicoloured and is bright and has fun connotations. The back enforces the CD and strengthens the fact that the artist is trying to appear fun. The image of the artist is central and makes him the focus of the digipak, the front looks aesthetically pleasing and makes the front seem neat and tidy. This shows that the digipak is professionally done and has a high appeal as audiences prefer professionally made products due to the perception that they are of a higher quality.
