Down With The Trumpets - Rizzlekicks

Camerawork

At around 0:12, a camera can be seen that captures the vintage essence that the video is trying to create. The shot zooms into the screen of the camera and the perspective of the audience changes to one of a media inside a piece of media. This makes the artists that can be seen at the beginning of the video seem like they are part of the audience, therby triggering Dyer's Paradox, wherein the artists seem like the regular people that are watching the video. The artists can be seen within the camera, instantly making them the focus of the video (Star Theory). Throughout the video, the duo can be seen in mid shots that emphasise the fact that there is only 2 of them, further highlighting their talent as a POP duo, due to the fact that most POP artists are either solo or in a group. This makes them stand out to the audience as something they may not have seen before, which relates to Neal's Theory of Genre. The wide shots that show the surroundings give an insight into their world and show us that they seem like regular people. Some long shots can be seen when the two are dancing and they are placed into the middle of the screen, this makes the shot look aesthetically pleasing to the viewer.

Editing

The editing in the video is not prominent in effects, but more in a filter. Though it is subtle, the filter is slightly Sepia and grey, this makes the video look slightly dull and is unusual for a POP video, as they generally want to make the scene seem fun, bright and attractive, a reason that this could have been done is due to make everyday life seem mundane, the song is interpreted by some to describe the feeling of being "High" and this is reflected well with the filter. The other prominent effect is about 1:40 into the video where there is slow motion and slightly after this there is an upside down effect, this relates back to the being "High" feeling and creates a good sense of synergy with the lyrics and the filter. This may allow the audience to use the video as an escape which is profitable for the artists as it, may be viewed more, this links directly to Goodwin's theory that music videos are not a necessity but a commodity.

Mise-En-Scene

The Mise-En-Scene in the video is relatively simple as it ensures that everything is kept casual. This is a common convention for POP videos, espescially when it borders on HipHop such as this song. The casual feel of the everyday, mundane location of the beach and the urban surroundings, give the viewers a way to feel what the artist would want them to. They can relate to these surroundings without having to imagine, in addition to this, the lighting is all natural and this increases the authenticity of the video. This links well to Dyer's Paradox that the artists are making it look like thay are regular people to increase the affection and attention that they may get from the viewers as relatable people. The props are virtually no existant in the video, however the only physical prop that can be seen is the trumpet itself, the only thing that one would expect to see in a video about trumpets, this works well and instantly shows the viewer what the video is about and the artists are not afraid to be direct with the video.

Sound

At the beginning of the video some sound can be heard that could be considered diegetic, this is the statoic of the TV, which creates a sense of synergy with the vintage looking camera. This helps to create a vintage looking atmosphere and links to the genre that the video is trying to resemble. The sound that can be heard in the background of the song is a trumpet which links to many other aspects of the video including the title. There is no ambient sound present in the video.
